Leona's Ice Cream Sandwiches
Ice cream is what dreams are made of, and Katie Heldstab and Christa Puskarich dream big. After receiving an ice cream maker as a wedding present, Katie decided to put her food marketing experience and culinary skills to good use. The couple’s dog, Leona, provided the inspiration and served as a taste tester for the start-up of their business, Leona’s Ice Cream Sandwiches.
Leona’s is speading joy and happiness with their small batch ice cream sandwiches made from locally sourced dairy and ingredients. Their many customers enjoy 100% lactose free ice cream in the ever changing variety of flavors that Katie and Christa dream up. With their business’s rapid growth, they needed more equipment and inventory to satisfy the demand for their one-of-a-kind treats. The Progress Fund loaned $99,000 to make Leona’s expansion possible.
The expansion of Leona’s Ice Cream Sandwiches has fueled the creation of 4 new jobs in the Pittsburgh region and enabled them to provide ice cream sandwiches to more wholesale customers.
