You have changed my life’s trajectory and I know you have done the same for so many others who just needed to be given the chance to fulfill their potential. Thank you so much for the opportunity you have given me.
Douglas Vaira established Domestic in Shepherdstown, WV as an attempt to “… democratize the opportunity to enjoy good, from-scratch food and quality cocktails, craft beers, and wines at a fair price.” Domestic’s philosophy was founded within an effort to provide space, food, drinks, and service that reflect the feelings of what an American restaurant can be.
A $57,120 loan from The Progress Fund provided the funds that Doug needed to make improvements to the restaurant, purchase equipment, furniture, and inventory, and provide working capital for Domestic.
Domestic’s welcoming atmosphere and refreshing design invites both visitors and locals alike to enjoy one of Shepherdstown’s most genuine culinary experiences. For Vaira, it’s a perfect fit for his passion. “Shepherdstown is truly a must-visit type of place, with an undeniable pride and sense of community. People sincerely love living here, and that is rare.” Domestic’s location in downtown Shepherdstown provides locally sustainable food & beverages in a historically significant storefront, and has created eight new jobs.
