Saigon Pho Kitchen
Raj Sundaram and his wife, Patra, had extensive restaurant experience having owned and operated restaurants in the U.S. and Thailand. Their successful Chaang Thai Restaurant is the only authentic Thai Restaurant in Morgantown, serving the finest Thai cuisine made with the freshest ingredients available. Encouraged by the popularity of this restaurant, they made plans to open a second restaurant offering a blend of popular Vietnamese comfort foods in a relaxed casual atmosphere.
The Progress Fund was familiar with their Chaang Thai Restaurant and had financed their adjacent frozen yogurt shop, Chillberry. Raj and Patra came back to The Progress Fund to secure the $150,000 of start-up funds needed to establish Saigon Pho Kitchen.
Saigon Pho Kitchen serves locals and visitors in the rapidly growing Suncrest area of Morgantown, a major hub for residential, commercial, retail and office development. Its close proximity to West Virginia University campus and medical school makes it a frequent stop for students. Their Pho Vietnamese cuisine, primarily comprised of soups and noodle dishes, is considered some of the healthiest food you can eat. Many of the fresh herbs and spices they use such as turmeric, galangal, coriander, lemongrass, and fresh chilies are believed to have immune-boosting and disease-fighting power.
